The beginning
I opened this site on November 29, 2002. I actually started a graphics site a little before that with my best friend, Eva, called PuyoPuyo, but it eventually closed. I decided to start up another one but only have layouts on it. For the first 3 years, all layouts were only available if the visitor filled out a form to have them e-mailed to them. When I sent the layouts, all of them were personalized with the visitor's site name. I was afraid this would discourage people from using the layouts, but it worked well since I got orders daily. Now, the personalization is still offered, but direct downloads are offered as well. After a few years, I also started to offer wallpapers.
This site is named after the .hack//song, "Fake Wings". I picked it randomly since it matched my domain's name, shattered-wingsNET. Because of the website name, every main layout for this site features wings in some way.
The goal
I own several websites, over 10 of them, and Fake Wings is one of the ones that I have put the most effort into. I've revamped this site several times over the years and have gone through and re-coded every pre-made layout at least 2 or 3 times. I want to make sure the graphics offered represent what I'm capable of. If I didn't prune any layouts, this site would actually have over 200 pre-made layouts!
One of my goals for this site is to provide a variety of styles in hopes of satisfying several types of preferences. I have a personal style that I like for my own sites, but owning this site has really given me a chance to try different styles and experiment around. I also do a lot of design work at my job, so it's nice to be able to just relax and not worry about "professional" looking designs.
All Div and Tables layouts on this site have valid CSS and valid HTML or XHTML. Some Frames/Iframes layouts might, but not all of them. I ran into browser compatibility issues with some, and well, compatibility is more important to me than completely valid code.
